Earlier this month, the RapportBoost.AI team attended the Digital Marketing Association’s 2017 &Then conference in New Orleans. The DMA &Then annual conference brings together thought leaders, innovators, and visionaries to jumpstart the data and marketing industry. We had a blast exhibiting our AI with a human-in-the-loop approach in the Emerging Tech area! We loved tracking the conference on social media #andTHEN17 and enjoyed interacting with great brands and leaders.

We had dozens of insightful discussions with CMOs of online brands who already had live chat or were thinking about implementing it. Topics included integrating Artificial Intelligence into the enterprise, customer acquisition, boosting conversion rates, harnessing millennial buying behavior, and the weaknesses of chatbots.

The data and marketing industry jump to chatbots was one of the more rapidly emerging topics at the 2017 DMA &Then.  Thought leaders and industry innovators agreed that chatbots could anecdotally be seen as glorified FAQs, requiring ever more input to be emotionally intelligent and responsive to customer questions and needs. Plenty of embarrassing stories were shared about brand identity being misaligned through chatbot interactions with customers. The overall consensus was that brands need to focus on optimizing humans first. By gaining accurate insights into customer buying behavior and using those ideas to optimize their current sales teams, brands can align their retail strategies to business outcomes.

We look forward to reconvening for the 2018 DMA &Then conference next year in Las Vegas!
